God is a Wordsmith

Scripture:

Mark 13:9b-11 (NLT)

9… This will be your opportunity to tell them about me. 10And the Good News must first be preached to every nation. 11But when you are arrested and stand trial, don’t worry about what to say in your defense. Just say what God tells you to. Then it is not you who will be speaking, but the Holy Spirit.

Observations:

It is very apparent that we don’t have to worry about what comes out of our mouths, as long as we are submitted to God. We may be put in stressful, dangerous, and even deadly situations, but the Holy Spirit will give us words to say.

Application:

As we approach the grand opening of Common Ground, I am impressed by the power of God. He is coming forward to proclaim His name in this community. He will prevail. I am feeling elated, confident, and secure in the fact that God is in control.

Who knows what to say to 150 visitors? Who knows what their needs are? Who can predict what their reactions will be? Only God can! I have to put my faith in Him and Him alone. I have to rely on His guidance and direction. He will prevail!

Whether it be greeters, food, preaching, music, or decorations — God will prevail. I’m even impressed that He can alter what is said and what is heard (or perceived). Even if the wrong word comes out of my mouth, people may hear something entirely different. I have no need to stress. God will provide for this great day of celebration.

It is gonna be cool!

Prayer:

Dear God, please humble us and remove the stress from our lives. Bring peace, courage and confidence to the entire church as we prepare for our Grand Opening. Be with Frank, Jeff, Brandi, Jen, Vicky, and Jim as we gear up for this great day.

Bring the people who need to hear your voice. Bring the people who need to hear your message of love, grace, justice, and mercy. Bring the people who are ready to be a part of this growing community of faith.

God, you are good!

Lord, please give me the words to say. As I spend the next several days preparing for the Sabbath worship experience — please lead me to the place where you are already working. Teach me, guide me.

I surrender to you Lord. Today, I surrender to you. Guide me in your ways!

I love you too God!
